I had a rather disappointing realization. I just realized that some hospitals, which are supposed to be like the cleanest areas ever, are suffering from a slight deprivation of bath body soaps in their bathrooms.
I had to bring my sister into the ER today because she was suffering from chills, really awful cough and joint pains. She’s a nurse too, and she recently told me that she had several infectious diseases in her care recently, one of which had pneumonia. Alarm bells rang in my head, especially when she said that she couldn’t move a muscle. I had to drag her to our gate and try to find a taxi to be able to send her to the hospital.
Anyway, while I was waiting for her to get discharged, I had the human urge to go to pee. So left her for a minute (since she was already fine, she’s looking for a cigarette already… sheesh, I wish she’d stop smoking already and went to the bathroom. After I did my business, imagine my annoyance and disgust when I realized that there were no tissues around, and the faucet had no soap dispenser!
Dude, just how annoying is that?! Are they trying to tell me that after the medical staffs of the hospital do their business, they simply wash their hands with just water?! There’s not even a single drop of anti-bacterial soap anywhere. And you wonder why so many people get infected with diseases. According to this Wall Street Journal column, hand washing is one of the most basic and simplest way to prevent the spread of diseases. Although there were alcohol dispensers nearby, I, for one, would be a bit more satisfied if they had some soap in hospital bathrooms.
Call me a neat freak, but people like me who are scared silly at the thought of getting sick need our hand washing. It may be a strange some sort of habit, but it’s a good habit that keeps me and my family healthy and disease free.
