Still in the series of men’s tie, we have generally talked about ties and how to knot the different styles like the Windsor and half Windsor. Today we will talk about the four-in-hand knot.

The Four-in-Hand knot displays a smaller and more discreet knot, which tends to be long and narrow. It works best with wide ties made from heavy fabrics and should be worn with a tab, button-down or regular spread collar. It’s a classic knot for any occasion.

To achieve the four-in-hand knot, follow these steps.

Drape the necktie around your collar with the wide part of your tie hanging twice as low and crossed over the thin part (Step 1). Wrap the wide end around the thin end twice, just a few inches below your neckline (2 & 3).

After wrapping it the second time, pull the wide end up and through the back of the V-shape made by the partially formed knot (4), and tuck it through the front loop of the knot (5).

Then, gently pull down on both the thin and wide ends below the knot until it’s adequately tight. Simply hold the thin end and pull the knot up snugly to your collar (6).

If you notice that the thin end hangs below the wide one, simply untie the knot and start over with the wide end hanging lower than it did the first time. On the flip side, if the wide end hangs too low, start over with the thin end hanging lower than it did the first time.

Repeat until both ends meet perfectly. Then simply flip your collar back down, making sure your tie is perfectly tucked under your collar, and centre the knot and then, there u go! Ready and looking smashing with a cute suit, shirt and trousers to fit.
